PRODUCTION NEWS
Product: National Pet Club, with Stefanie Powers
Objective: To introduce a club for pet owners that helps them take better care of their pets. National Pet
Club spots feature actress and animal rights activist, Stefanie Powers, as spokesperson. The club membership is
billed monthly to the member's telephone bill and includes two free veterinarian exams a year, a Lost Pet Registry
to help locate pets, discounts on pet food and supplies, and other benefits. As Stefanie says, "Don't your
pets deserve the best? Mine do."
Production Challenge: We shot these spots in two different locations - a home and a vet's office - for test
purposes. Each featured Stefanie Powers touting the club's benefits with her own Jack Russell Terrier in hand,
a vet testimonial, and shots of children and adults with their pets. We used shot inside and outside the home to
create different settings for pet owners...and used several areas within the doctor's office for shot variety as
well.
Dealing with animals or with children always adds an unknown element to a shoot day -- unknown in that we cannot
anticipate what they'll do to surprise us no matter how well the day is planned. In these spots, we dealt with
both children and animals at once! We engaged animal trainers who brought and cared for the pets, switching different
animals for different scenes, from puppies to full-grown dogs.
Shooting with a celebrity like Stefanie Powers has to be done properly also. Her experience leads her to expect
a high level of professionalism and organization. Because our crew and production staff were very experienced at
working with well-known talent, the days went smoothly, despite the rainy weather.
